Become a donor organizer!

The philanthropy field has been a home for the most privileged. Yet, when Black people, people of color, women, queer, trans, and low-income folks are consistently the first to throw down for social justice movements, this work isn't seen as philanthropy.

Our communities have consistently used their brilliance and creativity to support Third Wave Fund and our brilliant grantee partners. Here are just a handful of ways that you can show up in the capacity that works for you!

Become a monthly sustainer

Your monthly support of any amount helps us make monthly grants to grassroots activists who can't access other grants. These grants directly support work led by and for young women of color, queer and trans youth of color and low-income youth. Make a monthly or one-time gift now!

Promote the fund

You can promote Third Wave Fund with an email to friends or a post on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. Grassroots organizations on the front-lines of movement building rarely get the big bucks. Give your community a way to change that!

host a party

Your friends are hungry for ways to show up for grassroots activism, why not do it while sipping rosé? Parties can look like a potluck, a rager, a happy hour, clothing swap, letter writing party, or a creative spin of your own.  Check out our house party guide!

pool your resources

Unsure of where to start? Sometimes the easiest place is with your friends and family! We can hook you up with email templates and an online fundraising page to get you started with raising funds for gender justice.

Donate a Percent

Have a small business or art practice? Maybe you're in a band and going on tour soon? Donate a percentage of sales to Third Wave!  From flash tattoo sales to glitterotica cards on Etsy, we've seen the most creative ideas come out of our communities to support gender justice organizing.

Talk to nicole!

Reach out to External Relations Associate, aka resident Donor Activist Organizer, Nicole Myles to brainstorm ideas! We believe that everyone who is passionate about justice has the power to give and fundraise in meaningful ways. We're here to support you every step of the way.

"Third Wave is bringing together an intergenerational, multi-racial community of donors united by our belief in a transformational movement for gender justice. THAT is something I want to be part of." - Ben Francisco Maulbeck

Babies Against the Binary

Picture
Babies Against the Binary was born shortly after BATM creators, Anastasia and Pam Fujii had their first child. As queer parents, Anastasia and Pam want a world where children are safe to be and become their whole selves. In the summer of 2018, Anastasia sold their Babies Against the Binary onesies to benefit Third Wave Fund at an event in Philadelphia!

Dance Parties Fueling the Movement!

Enter Ash Smith, a black, queer, Brooklyn-based DJ, and donor activist.

Ash donates the proceeds from Truuu, a monthly dance party centering queer and trans people of color, to our
Mobilize Power Fund each month. Check out our quick convo on donor activism!

Q: The Truuu dance party is an amazing way to raise resources for the movement. Why did you choose Third Wave?

A: There were a few places on my radar, but one thing that really won me over was watching the Third Wave 20th-anniversary video, and learning how accessible funding can be [thru Third Wave] for those that don't easily have access.

I had a meeting with
External Relations Associate, Nicole Myles. She has been AMAZING and incredibly generous with her time, advice and insight in creating something like Truuu.

Q: What's special about Truuu?

A: When people come to Truuu, I truly just want people to feel like they're basically getting a gigantic warm hug. I want people to feel safe and seen. I want people to feel comfortable enough to come alone and hang.

Q. The word "donor" almost automatically conjures up a person with wealth. Do you see Truuu as a form of donor activism?

I personally wanted to create a safe space, meet amazing new individuals, have fun, and be able to donate to a wonderful organization all at the same time. I just think the work is necessary, and I'm thankful for the work other event throwers in the city have done to create these spaces and open doors for QPOC communities. I feel great knowing that I'm able to contribute to Third Wave and make something like this happen.

Q: Well, Ash, you are ridiculously humble! Last question, what are you looking forward to in the new year?

A: I'm mostly looking forward to having more parties! It's all still so new to me, I'm just excited to keep it going and see the way the party evolves and grows over time.
